Race is a Myth!
Every one of us, from whatever race around the planet you are referring to, are currently
classified by anthropologist, geneticists, and biologist as belonging to the one species, Homo sapiens. The differences between human races are superficial, regardless of how they may appear, i.e. black, brown, red, yellow or white skinned. All races share 99.99+% of the same genetic materials, which means that division of race is largely subjective, and that the original 3-5 races were also probably just subjective descriptions as well. There is no universally accepted classification for “race,” however, and its use has been under fire over the last few decades. The United Nations, in a 1950 statement, opted to “drop the term ‘race’ altogether and speak of “ethnic groups.” Instead, we have been fed an unintentional litany of propaganda from the media about why blue eyes are more beautiful, blonds have more fun and being white is the end all be all of our life on this planet.
Take a look at retired teacher turned lecturer and workshop facilitator, Jane Elliot who has explored race and tolerance since her early teaching days, when she ran experiments on her classes to show, whichever category you get lumped into, the blue eyed smart group or the brown eyed smart group, tolerance takes a sabbatical when each takes on the "superior role. Mrs. Eliot takes only a one minute to summarize why race continues to this day:
So, what is Race and why is it a myth? Race is a socially constructed concept, and does not have a biological meaning. Biological races like Negroid and Caucasoid simply do not exist. The genetic studies of the last few decades have only added more nails to the coffin of biological race. Evidence shows that those features usually coded to race, for example, stature, skin color, hair texture, and facial structure, do not correlate with genetic variation. . .
Race is neither an essence nor an illusion, but rather an ongoing, contradictory, self-reinforcing process subject to the macro forces of social and political struggle and the micro effects of daily decisions. . . References of terms like Black, White, Asian, and Latino are social groups, not genetically distinct branches of humankind. To quote a perhaps colloquial example, people can interbreed, animals can’t breed between species. Although all races share over 99% of the same genetic material, the classification and division of races is largely subjective, and to reiterate, all races belong to the same species; Homo Sapiens. Anyone who has had their DNA tested, will soon see that their genetic makeup is nothing like they imagined, it is not biology at all that indicates race, it is the groups we live within.
Science states that races are defined as a group of people that are separated and grouped together due to the fact that they have common inherited traits that distinguishes them from other groups. As Robert Wald Sussman states in a Newsweek’s article, There is No Such Thing as Race. Because of the extensive evidence for genetic interchange through population movements and recurrent gene flow going back at least hundreds of thousands of years ago, there is only one evolutionary lineage of humanity and there are no subspecies or races. Human evolution and population structure has been, and is, characterized by many locally differentiated populations coexisting at any given time, but with sufficient contact to make all of humanity a single lineage sharing a common, long-term evolutionary fate.
That said, given current scientific data, biological races do not exist among modern humans today, and they have never existed in the past. Given such clear scientific evidence as this and the research data of so many other biologists, anthropologists, and geneticists that demonstrate the nonexistence of biological races among humans, how can the “myth” of human races still persist? People keep this outdated notion alive to cause separation! And all separation is against our greater and highest good of humanity…We are ONE and as one humanity we must learn to live and work together for our greater good!
